Why is your C: drive full? Find big files and free disk space with AI

Guide · about 6 minutes to read · updated October 28, 2026

"Low disk space" on a Windows PC is rarely one big thing. It is a few hundred gigabytes spread over old installers, forgotten video, caches, duplicate photos and a Downloads folder nobody opens. An AI that can actually look at your disk (not guess from a description) finds the culprits in minutes. This guide shows how to do it with ChatGPT or Claude connected through Bridgerator, and how to delete only what you are sure about.

Step 1. Measure first

Start with questions that only read. Nothing changes on the PC.

FoldersWhy is my C: drive almost full? Show the 20 biggest folders under C:\Users\anna with their sizes. Read only.
FilesFind every file over 1 GB on drive D: that hasn't been opened for a year. List path, size and last-modified date.
InstallersList .exe, .msi and .iso files in Downloads and on the Desktop with their size and date.
DuplicatesFind duplicate files in Documents and Pictures by content and show how much space they waste. Don't remove anything.

Each of these is a handful of tool calls on your PC, and the Free plan includes 10,000 a month. If a folder is closed by your folder rules, the AI will say so rather than guess.

Step 2. Sort the findings into three piles

Ask for a report with three groups, and read it yourself:

ReportFrom what you found, make three lists: 1) safe to delete (old installers, duplicates, leftovers from finished projects), 2) maybe, I need to decide (videos, archives, VM images), 3) leave alone. Give the reason for each item and the space it would free.

Step 3. Clean up with a net underneath

Work through the safe list in batches and keep the confirmations on:

CleanDelete only the files on the "safe" list that are in C:\Users\anna\Downloads. Then tell me how much space is free on C: now.

What this will not do

Measuring a disk does not need the terminal, but commands such as emptying caches do, and the terminal runs with your Windows user's rights, not limited by folder rules. If you do not want that, turn it off and use only the file tools: see running PowerShell from ChatGPT safely. AI assistants make mistakes, so keep a backup of anything you would miss.

Not connected yet?

You need the PC connected first: ChatGPT or Claude. For tidying one folder in particular, see cleaning up Downloads.
